My Top 5 Must Watch Christmas Movies

With Christmas right around the corner, I have made it a personal mission of mine to watch as many of my favorite Christmas movies before the holiday arrives.

To be entirely honest, I was not feeling the holiday spirit until recently. The month began with deadlines approaching, and the worry that came along with the California wildfires hitting a little too close to home. Now that I have successfully completed another semester, it has hit me.

Christmas is NEXT MONDAY! Can you even believe it? What is it with December? This final month just seems to zoom by. Needless to say, I have found myself in full Christmas panic mode. Shopping with a mission, drinking hot cocoa excessively, and decorating ugly Christmas sweater cookies with my husband.

While there are many Christmas movies out there, only a few make it to our must-watch list. The list I have compiled below, is of the 5 movies that my husband and I watch every single year. They have become a part of our holiday tradition, and truly get us into that holiday spirit.

The Christmas Story

This movie is everything a Christmas classic should be. The Christmas Story brings back those memories of being a child on Christmas. Even the narration manages to remind me of exactly how I used to think as a child. It is silly, heart-warming, and relatable all at once.

I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but if you haven’t seen this movie by now- what are you doing???

Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Jim Carrey, Jim Carrey, Jim Carrey. Let’s be real, the man is hilarious and his portrayal of the Grinch who “steals” Christmas is serious perfection. I honestly believe that nobody could have played the part any better.

While the Christmas obsessed town of Whoville will have you in full Christmas mode, the Grinch(played by Jim Carrey) keeps you laughing throughout the entire movie. Also, who doesn’t love Dr. Seuss??

Fun fact- I actually visited the set of Whoville while on a studio tour at Universal Studios. Now, if I could only meet Jim Carrey himself…

This movie has everything you could possibly want from a Christmas film. Humor, romance, and an unconventional elf. Chances are, you have already seen this movie and understand why it made the list. If you haven’t, you need to go do that right now.

You’ll be quoting this movie even after Christmas. “We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup.”- Buddy The Elf

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

This holiday movie centers around a dad who takes Christmas very seriously. He demands the perfect Christmas, which of course does not go as planned. His quirky personality, and his obsession with the perfect Christmas, make this movie absolutely hilarious.

My husband actually introduced me to National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, and I’m happy he did. It is both funny and relatable. This movie brings humor to the standards we set for Christmas. Sometimes an imperfect Christmas, is actually the best Christmas. Yes, I’m cheesy I know.

Home Alone

This movie centers around Kevin McCallister- a kid who is accidentally, left home alone as his parents leave for their family holiday trip to Paris. While home alone, two house burglars attempt to rob his home knowing the family would be in Paris.

This movie makes my top 5 because there’s just something both entertaining and hilarious about a child who outsmarts two grown men. By the end, you’ll be left wondering what Kevin’s dad does for a living. How does he afford to fly his entire family to Paris? And finally, how did he afford that enormous house??

Merry Christmas!!

Alright, so these are the top 5 must-watch Christmas movies that make my list. Of course, watching Christmas movies would not be as fun if I didn’t have my husband to watch with me. So because I know he reads my blog, I love you baby!

I hope everyone has a truly amazing Christmas, and if you love any one of these movies, let me know in the comments below! Do any of these  movies make your top 5?

Merry Christmas!!
